Private
From shallow and deep foundations to earth retentions and instrumentation, Strata has extensive experience in subsurface explorations for commercial developments in both rural and urban setting. Many of Chicagoland’s newest high rises and local attractions have been drilled by Strata - including the Chicago Riverwalk, Wrigley Field and the Obama Presidential Center - slated to break ground in 2019. Strata has also provided geotechnical services for many of our local universities and hospitals, including University of Illinois, Northwestern, Northern Illinois University, and Rush University Medical Center.
Industrial
Strata is registered with a variety of compliance monitory agencies to allow us to work in industrial settings for clients like Exxon, Stepan, US Steel and Arcelor Mittal. We are compliant in BROWZ, AVETTA, ISNetworld and NCMS and maintain Three Rivers Manufacturing Association (TRMA) trained crews.
Federal
Strata is registered in SAM and has extensive experience working for the United States of Army Corps of Engineers. We recently completed a five year contract that included thirty-four delivery orders for the USACE. Notable projects include Chicago Locks, McCook Quarry and the St. Louis Area of Concern in Duluth, MN. Extensive work has also been completed at the Great Lakes Naval Station.
Utility
Strata has completed multiple drilling projects for major utilities including ComEd, People’s Gas, Chicago Department of Water Management, Exelon, and We Energies. Subsurface exploration services have been completed for projects ranging from transmission lines to pipeline services, and also include environmental testing for former MGP and other remediation sites.
Transportation
Strata works in a variety of transportation settings, including the following:
- Aviation: Strata maintains active security clearance at O’Hare International Airport, allowing services in both secure and nonsecure locations. Strata has also completed projects at Chicago Midway and various municipal airports.
- Railroad: Strata is compliant with all required DOT regulations, include FRA and Browz, with extensive experience drilling for major railways including BNSF, CN, CP, UP, Metra, and Amtrak, as well as drilling within the right away for various CTA projects. Railway subsurface exploration services have been completed for projects such as track alignment and bridge structures. Specialty equipment, including barges and hi-rail, allow us to reach challenging project locations.
- Roadways: Strata has completed multiple large projects for the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois Tollway, municipalities, and local county projects.
Specialty
Strata has a variety of specialty equipment and tooling to meet the needs of a wide range of geotechnical and environmental projects:
- Waterway: Strata owned sectional barges enable access to waterway projects ranging from soil borings for bridge foundations to environmental sediment sampling. Support boats are used with the barges or stand alone for ponar sampling.
- Hi-Rail: A Diedrich D-50 truck mounted rig with Hi-Rail equipment and a utility cart are available to complete projects only accessible by rail.
- Skid Rig: Strata owns two (2) Diedrich D-25 skid rigs that can access interior locations inside existing structures, as well as exterior locations requiring low clearance work, like bridges or viaducts. These rigs can also be placed with a crane in hard to reach locations, such as excavation areas or embankments.
